(Intro) In the realm of ones and zeros, where data dances free, A prophet whispered softly of a future yet to be. "Hark!" he cried, his voice a mix of wonder and of dread, "Our digital footprints will be measured, taxed, and read!" The crowds, they gathered 'round him, their screens aglow with light, To hear his wild predictions of a cyber-future bright. Some scoffed and some they marveled, but all were keen to know, How their virtual steps might soon be tracked, both high and low. "Listen well, ye netizens," the prophet did implore, "For every click and swipe you make leaves marks upon the shore Of this vast digital ocean, this sea of endless data, Where some leave trails like breadcrumbs, and others, stains far greater." A young girl in the front row, her tablet clutched so tight, Asked, "But sir, how can they measure something out of sight? Our carbon we can see and feel, in smoke and smog so thick, But how to quantify a tweet, a like, a simple click?" The prophet smiled sagely, his eyes alight with glee, "Ah, child, in the future, all will transparent be! They'll count your emails, messages, your videos, and more, And tally up the bandwidth that you use down to the core." An old man raised his hand then, his brow furrowed with doubt, "And pray, what good would come from keeping such close count? Will they tax us for our memes, our cat videos so sweet? Or charge us extra for the data when with friends we meet?" "Indeed!" the prophet answered, his voice both grave and clear, "They'll tax the heavy users, make wasteful habits dear. But fear not, for there'll be ways to offset what you owe, By planting virtual trees or letting unused data go." A businessman stepped forward, his suit as sharp as code, "I see potential profit in this path that you've foreshowed! We'll sell digital offsets, like carbon credits green, And make a fortune cleaning up the cyber world unseen!" The prophet shook his head then, a sadness in his eyes, "But think of all the beauty that in free expression lies. Will poetry be metered not in verse but megabytes? And art be judged by file size, not the feelings it ignites?" A teacher raised her voice then, her tone both firm and kind, "Perhaps this awareness will help us all to mind The traces that we leave behind in this digital space, And make us more intentional in every online place." The crowd fell silent, pondering the future thus portrayed, Of measured clicks and counted likes, of freedom slightly frayed. But then a child spoke up, her voice a beacon bright, "What if we use this knowledge to spread more love and light?" The prophet beamed upon her, his heart filled with new hope, "Ah, there's the key, dear child, to help us all to cope! For whether steps or stains we leave upon this cyber-shore, It's what those marks convey that truly matters, evermore." And so the people dispersed, their minds abuzz with thought, Of digital footprints measured and the changes they might wrought. Some vowed to tread more lightly, some to make their mark more bold, But all now saw their online lives in ways both new and old. (Intro) (Outro)
