Higher Than the Skylark

[Intro] Higher than grief, higher than rain, A hidden bird turns air to flame. [Verse 1] Hail to the singer I cannot see, A joy released above the tree. You pour your heart through open sky, And teach the earth why souls can fly. [Pre-Chorus] We look for wings and find a sound, We touch the dust and leave the ground. Somewhere above our mortal wrong, The morning learns your secret song. [Chorus] Higher than the skylark, carry me, Over the sorrow, over the sea. Pour down the music, bright and clear, Make the far hope near. Higher than the skylark, let me rise, Past the cloud and human cries. If I could sing as you sing on, The world would wake before the dawn. [Instrumental Interlude] [Verse 2] You are not shadow, crown, or star, Yet every lonely heart knows where you are. Like rain of light from unseen fire, You fill the silence with desire. [Bridge] Teach me half the gladness kept In the song you never wept. Then my human words would be A river running toward the free. [Outro] Higher than grief, higher than rain, A hidden bird keeps singing again.
