A girl was born yesterday. She has her mother’s eyes, But they flash with her father’s fiery ways Tempered by a soft word Spoken in time to cool and heal As she grows the fire turns back Pushing her on, away from Home And out into something new, something unknown We love to see her fly, but it’s hard to see her fly away Our little spark now blazing across an open sky Tearing through the blanket of blue Our mother’s blanket, our cradle, our home Now fades away below A question she can’t bring herself to ask but can’t escape, holding on like a tardigrade Waiting for the solitude where quiet things can play Deep among the stars with time to contemplate She wonders what her sister’s doing Is her mom okay? Pictures come with some delay, Time and space and distance. Distance. Space. Time. So much time. Time to focus once again We’re coming into view Science, math, machines hold fragile life My precious little girl. The fires come alive once more Burn down Charlotte, burn down. Forces tempered, soft touch down. Now her work begins. We love to see her fly, but it’s hard to see her fly away I hope she'll fly back home someday.
