It Wasn't The Doll

[Intro - whispered, barely audible] The house stood quiet... like it always had... [Verse 1] Family night like any other, TV humming low, Daddy on the red couch, sinking a little too deep though, Creepy doll sitting upright, head tilted just so, Boy in the hallway watching the shadows grow. [Verse 2] Lights went out around midnight, one heavy wooden groan, Daddy never made it back from the living room alone. Empty spot on the cushions, still warm to the touch, Momma called his name but the silence answered too much. [Verse 3] By morning they were pointing at the doll with glassy stare, "It moved again last week, I swear it wasn’t there." Neighbors nodded, old tales of toys that shouldn't be, While the boy stayed silent about what moved beneath. [Verse 4] Later that night he crept back down, floorboards cold as bone, Watched the red couch ripple slow, claiming the doll as its own. It shifted her gently like a puppet in its game, A velvet smile hiding teeth that had no name. [Verse 5] Then the house stopped pretending to sleep. Armchairs bent like waking spines, Lampshades drew slow breaths, bookshelves started to crack. Walls leaned in closer, floorboards began to breathe, The whole house waking up... hungry for what it needs. [Verse 6] Momma screamed as the rug yanked her under the tide, Boy smashed through the window, glass and terror side by side. He ran down the street with the truth burning inside, Every warm living room... has something that hides. [Outro] It wasn't the doll. It was never the doll. Some houses don't want families... They want feeding.
