That Body Looks Like Me
(Intro — Spoken) (Police sirens in the distance) 911, what’s your emergency? Uh… yeah, so… There’s a body on the floor. …Wait a minute. (Verse 1) Racism’s racist, don’t matter which side, Hate wears different colors, but the same damn disguise. Everybody pointing fingers, acting morally clean, Throwing stones at the world from behind a screen. They ask me, “How’d you get here?” I said, “Lord taught me,” Walked through the fire with the faith He brought me. Everybody’s got a story, everybody’s got a claim, But you can’t preach about peace while you’re spreading more hate. Whole room arguing, nobody hears a word, Everybody’s got a truth, but nobody wants to learn. I’m standing in the middle like, “What the hell is this?” Then I look down at the floor and something seems amiss. (Pre-Chorus) Red lights flashing, hear the sirens get near, Got a strange little feeling that the end is here. Pick up the phone, got a voice in my ear, Dispatcher asks the question, now I’m shifting my gear. (Chorus — 911 Dispatcher / Main Voice) [Dispatcher]: 911, what’s your emergency? [Main Voice]: There’s a body on the floor—this is crazy! [Dispatcher]: Is the victim awake? Can you tell me what you see? [Main Voice]: Hold up… wait a minute… THAT BODY LOOKS LIKE ME! There’s a body on the floor, got the whole room shook, I came here to talk, now I’m part of the book. Sirens outside, got my heart on freeze, 911, come get me—WHO THE HELL IS HE?! (Verse 2) Everybody’s innocent until the truth comes out, Everybody’s brave till the lights flash red and blue. One minute talking big, next minute asking why, Now I’m staring at the ceiling, wondering if I died. I said the Lord taught me, so I tried to do right, But my common sense left somewhere in the night. Got a room full of witnesses, all pointing at me, I’m the caller, I’m the victim—how the hell can that be? Dispatcher keeps talking, says, “Stay where you are,” I’m looking at the window, then I look at the car. There’s a shadow in the hallway, there’s a knock at the door, And I swear that I can hear my own voice from the floor. (Bridge — Spoken, Beat Drops Out) [Dispatcher]: Sir, can you confirm your identity? [Main Voice]: Yeah… that’s the problem. [Dispatcher]: What problem? [Main Voice]: The guy on the floor… …has my face. (Heartbeat stops; silence) [Dispatcher, quietly]: Sir? [Main Voice, whispering]: I think I called about myself. (Outro) (Police sirens grow louder) Racism’s racist… hate’s still hate… Lord, I hope I’m not too late. 911, can you hear me? There’s a body on the floor… Wait. Why’s the phone ringing… Inside the body? (Dial tone)
