1. Why do the nations roar in vain, Their rulers plot, their hearts disdain? They rise as one, with fists upraised, Against the Lord—His throne opposed, amazed. 2. “Now break their chains,” the proud ones say, “Cast off His yoke, defy His sway!” But He who sits in heaven’s height Laughs—holds their rage in scornful sight. 3. Then with a voice like thunder deep, The Lord rebukes them in His heat: “Yet I have set My King in place, Upon My hill, to reign in grace.” 4. The Son proclaims the Lord’s decree— “You are My heir; the earth for Thee. Rule with a rod of iron strong, And shatter those who do you wrong.” 5. So kings, be wise, and rulers, bow, Serve Him with fear, take refuge now. Kiss the Son, lest wrath ignite— Blest are all who trust His might!
