[Verse 1] Every day we make up the rules Job descriptions are useless tools We just show up, pretending to Do the things we're supposed to do Got a project but what does it mean Not confident in this routine Acting like we comprehend It's a mystery from end to end [Pre-Chorus] It's amazing that the gears still turn Even though we don’t really learn We stumble forward, even though There isn’t much we actually know [Chorus] Let's push on and figure it out Making it up as we go, no doubt Step by step in this charade It's a wonder any progress is made Yeah, we improvise and muddle through Even though we have no clue [Verse 2] We do our best at tasks anew We get promoted, but still no clue Some don't realize they don't know Others get that it’s all a show We piece together clues we find But confusion is the tie that binds Yet we persist and play our part Guided by a hopeful heart [Pre-Chorus] It's amazing that the gears still turn Even though we don’t really learn We stumble forward, even though There isn’t much we actually know [Chorus] Let's push on and figure it out Making it up as we go, no doubt Step by step in this charade It's a wonder any progress is made Yeah, we improvise and muddle through Even though we have no clue [Bridge] No instruction manual to guide our way We make it through another day With no compass, no clear signs We navigate this grand design [Chorus] Let's push on and figure it out Making it up as we go, no doubt Step by step in this charade It's a wonder any progress is made Yeah, we improvise and muddle through Somehow it works, though we have no clue [Outro] So here's to the people who carry on Despite the fact we might be wrong And even though we improvise Amazingly the world still thrives
