[Verse 1] Found a paper kite Under my passenger seat Old string, bent frame And a stain from the rain I laughed out loud Like I knew what to do Then I tied it up And thought of you [Pre-Chorus] Wind in the chain-link yard Trees bent hard and low I held that little thing Like it wanted to go [Chorus] Let it fly, let it fly Over the fence tonight Let it fly, let it fly I’m not holding tight Paper kite, take the sky Take my whole care away Let it fly, let it fly Till the blue wears gray [Verse 2] It pulled at my wrist Like a dog on a rope One quick gust And it gave me hope Past the laundromat sign Past the half-cut grass I ran like a kid Who believes in chance [Pre-Chorus] Wind in the chain-link yard Trees bent hard and low I held that little thing Like it wanted to go [Chorus] Let it fly, let it fly Over the fence tonight Let it fly, let it fly I’m not holding tight Paper kite, take the sky Take my whole care away Let it fly, let it fly Till the blue wears gray [Bridge] If it tears, let it tear If it drifts, let it drift Some things only live When your fingers lift I watched it rise And I watched it fade Still the world felt new In a crooked shape [Chorus] Let it fly, let it fly Over the fence tonight Let it fly, let it fly I’m not holding tight Paper kite, take the sky Take my whole care away Let it fly, let it fly Till the blue wears gray
