Not as a dream of what happened, but as a memory of what has not happened yet. The first thing she heard was the ticking. Not the steady pulse of the ship's engines, nor the soft rhythm of the hypersleep chamber monitoring her heart. This was a different sound. Delicate. Mechanical. Almost impatient. She opened her eyes. She was standing in a room she hadn't seen in years. Rain slid down a tall window. Beyond the glass, the lights of a city shimmered beneath a violet sky. A small clock sat on a desk, its hands moving backward. On the desk lay a silver watch. She knew it. She had carried it across the universe, across the impossible distance between two realities. She had given it away to a woman who looked exactly like her, a woman who didn't yet understand that their lives had already become entangled. But in the dream, the watch was new. And she was young enough to believe that saving someone meant telling them the truth... ------- THE GIRL WHO CROSSED THE STARS (A space rock opera) Lyrics by MIIKA (c) Oct 2026 Story idea and writing by MIIKA (c) Sept 2026 ------- [Strange girl] Two worlds. One sky. One moment Out of time. [PART 1: THE GIFT] My father watched the clocks run backward, Saw the stars begin to sway. He found a space between the heavens, Where two worlds could slip away. He built a watch to hold the fracture, To keep the worlds from drawing near. But something crossed the line between them, And left a ghost inside of here. His last words still are burning: “Don't let the worlds collide.” Then all I had was silver, And the truth he left inside. I crossed the stars for you. I crossed the stars for you. To save a world I never knew, I crossed the stars for you. [PART II: THE FIRST CROSSING] I woke beneath a different sky, A stranger in a stranger's home. Then there you stood, with my own eyes, And suddenly I wasn't alone. We talked beneath the window stars, You laughed, and I forgot my fear. I watched you dream of distant oceans, And wished my world were still right here. You asked me why I looked so broken. I said I'd lost my way. I gave you something made of silver, And prayed you'd live to see the day. I crossed the stars for you. I crossed the stars for you. To save a world I never knew, I crossed the stars for you. Then came the signal through the silence, Your own ship calling from the dead. I knew the sound. I'd heard it once Before my world turned black and red. I thought the watch could change the ending. I thought I could undo the fall. But every time I crossed between us, I drove the two worlds toward it all. I gave you hope. I gave you danger. I gave you memories not your own. I came to keep you from the wreckage... But I may be the cause alone. I came to save you! I came to save you! But every world I crossed Brought the end a little closer. I came to save you! I came to save you! Now tell me, how do I Save you from myself? [PART III: WHEN THE HEART SPEAKS] If I could take the watch and break it, Would the stars return to place? Would I lose the only person Who ever saw me in her face? If I could sleep before the memories Turn your heart against your mind, Would you wake and still remember The friend you thought you'd find? Father, was this your warning? Was this the price you knew? Did you leave me with a key Or a door I can't undo? I came to save you! I came to save you! Two worlds are breaking, And I don't know what is true. I came to save you! I came to save you! If one world must survive, Let it be the one with you. Two worlds. One sky. I gave you the watch And taught the stars to die...
