The Jester had a great idea of writing songs based on characters who found themselves turned into marketable plushies. Since I write primarily country music, my plushy would have to be a cowboy, naturally! Now Cowboy Carl finds himself forgotten in a toy store, looking for that one perfect child to take him home. My boots aren’t scuffed, although I’ve seen some falls, My hat brim’s dusty, but I’m standin’ tall. My felt mustache can’t hide my hopeful grin, ‘Cause my adventure’s ready to begin. I may be stuffed with cotton, but it’s true, That I am still a cowboy through and through. I’m stuffed with dreams, and stitched up strong, A cowboy with a lonesome song. I may be ragged, but you’ll see There’s someone out there made for me. I’ve seen some kites, and birds, and dragons fly, And heard a doll that sang a lullaby. I’ve watched tin robots slowly rust with pride, And pirate ships that went out with the tide, But I’m still here with clothing made from felt, A stitched-on lasso hanging from my belt. My sun-bleached hat protects me every day, As I await my chance to go and play. I’m stuffed with dreams, and stitched up strong, A cowboy with a lonesome song. I may be ragged, but you’ll see There’s someone out there made for me. Then one day came a girl with bows and curls, A frilly dress that blossoms when she twirls. She saw me smilin’, then she reached up high Said, “Howdy, partner,” as she winked her eye. Now I ride shotgun in a bright pink Jeep, And I protect her each night as she sleeps. It turns out even cowboys made of fluff, Can make a girl believe he’s tough enough. I’m stuffed with dreams, and stitched up strong, A cowboy with a happy song.
