I was walkin’ on the playground One lovely day in fall When I saw my best friend Jimmy With his back up to the wall They were trying hard to hit him With this half pumped basketball Jimmy had been dodgin’ But I knew he soon would fall I ran into the court And I stood by Jimmy’s side No one should be alone On the day that they might die The balls just kept on flying Me and Jimmy ducked them all Picked ‘em up and then returned them With love from Tyler‘s mom Well, Tyler didn’t like that Not one little bit Don’t you talk about my mama! I’ll make you two eat this! Tyler lobbed his ball so hard I heard it whistle through the air But now my heart was pounding And I really didn’t care If I lived or if I died I would take that Tyler out I put my back into that throw And made my battle shout Tyler knew he was a goner When that ball came straight at him Knocked him right up side the head Then he fell down looking grim That’s when I got scared With Tyler laying on the ground He didn’t move a muscle He didn’t make a sound So I crept up close to take a peek to see if he was dead And just when I leaned over He reached up and grabbed my head We were fighting tooth and nail Kicking, biting scratching flailing Pretty soon, a whistle blew From somewhere near the school Who it was I never knew I just clocked that fool But he had me in a headlock So tight, I couldn’t breathe So I kept on throwin’ elbows Trying to get free Just as things were going black I heard my friend Jim say “He stepped in here to save me We didn’t start it, Mr Day”
