My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?”

V6

[Intro — Spoken, deep male voice] Three questions. One cross. One Savior. And a debt we could never pay. “My God, My God, Why have You forsaken Me?” [Verse 1] He fought the darkness all His days, He faced the tempter’s cunning ways. He prayed beneath the garden trees, And bore the weight no man could see. But now the darkness veils the sky, The spotless Lamb is lifted high. The Holy One, the Just, the True, Bears sins that never once He knew. [Pre-Chorus] The guilt was mine. The wounds were His. The debt was mine. The price was His. [Chorus] HE STOOD ALONE! HE STOOD ALONE! Beneath the judgment, for my soul. The Son of God, the sacrifice, He paid the debt, He paid the price! HE STOOD ALONE! SO I COULD COME HOME! His blood has made the lost His own! Oh, let the whole world hear and know: He stood alone at Calvary! [Verse 2] “Why have You left Me here to die? Why does no answer fill the sky?” The cry of anguish pierced the night, The Son endured sin’s awful plight. Not for His crimes, for none were there, But for our guilt He bore despair. The righteous One, for sinners slain, Took what was ours to bring us gain. [Verse 3] The second question shows His worth: Why did He stand alone on earth? That He might wear the victor’s crown, And bring salvation to the bound. No borrowed glory, none beside, Could claim the triumph of His tide. He bore the cross, He won the day, And rolled the stone of death away! [Bridge — Building] The Lamb was slain! The price was paid! The wrath was borne! The debt erased! The veil was torn! The way was made! The lost can come! The tomb is laid— EMPTY! [Verse 4 — Quiet, Heartfelt] The third question cuts me deep: Why did the Father seem not to hear? The Savior bore the sinner’s place, To bring the guilty near by grace. And now I hear that final call: Come to the Christ who bore it all. Don't turn away. Don't harden your heart. Come to the Savior. Come as you are. [Breakdown — Spoken Male Voice] Is Jesus’ death nothing to you? Can you look upon the cross and call Him your Redeemer? He gave Himself for sinners. He suffered in their place. And the question remains: Is He your Savior? [Final Chorus — Full Power] HE STOOD ALONE! HE STOOD ALONE! Beneath the judgment, for my soul! The Son of God, the sacrifice, He paid the debt, He paid the price! HE STOOD ALONE! SO I COULD COME HOME! No other blood could atone! Let every sinner hear and know: There’s mercy waiting at the throne! HE STOOD ALONE! HE STOOD ALONE! JESUS CHRIST HAS BROUGHT US HOME! [Outro — Choir and Lead Vocal] At Calvary! At Calvary! Love poured out at Calvary! He stood alone— So we could come home! [Spoken Outro] Inspired by Charles H. Spurgeon. The sermon: “Three Questions.” Spurgeon Gems dot org. Go there to read some more.
