Bird in a Cage

V5.5

"I trapped him like a bird in a cage… forty-six cities fallen… Hezekiah the Judahite…" Assyrian boots on the Shephelah plain Lachish is burning, the ramparts in flames Battering rams and the arrows like rain Hezekiah’s paying the tribute in shame Silver and gold from the Temple they take But the heart of the king will not bend or break He tears his robes, falls on his face In the house of the Lord, he seeks Yahweh’s grace Despite all their rage, I’m still just a bird in a cage Wings clipped by an empire, surrounded by hate But the God of the angel armies hears when I pray Tonight the Assyrian host will fade away! The Rabshakeh mocks from the walls of the city Your God cannot save you, don’t trust in His pity Egypt’s a broken reed, it will pierce your hand Every nation we’ve crushed, now you join the damned! But Isaiah stands up with the word of the Lord Fear not, O My servant, I have heard your call One angel walked through the camp in the night a hundred eighty-five thousand fell without a fight Despite all their rage, I’m still just a bird in a cage Trapped by the proudest king of his age But the God of the angel armies answered that day Sennacherib fled and his army decayed! Every empire thinks it’s writing history Every tyrant boasts till the moment they see That the God of the Bible is not dead or sleeping He topples the proud while His people are keeping… Faith! Despite all their rage… The bird sings louder… The cage couldn’t hold what the Lord has set free! Despite all their rage, we’re still just birds in a cage But our God breaks the bars and He turns every page From Lachish to Nineveh, the evidence stands Archaeology, Scripture, and the blood on His hands! The angel still moves, the Lion of Judah still saves Despite all their rage… we are free! Bird in a cage… but the cage couldn’t hold me… Yahweh delivered… history foretold me…
