Verse 1: Like pitch that stains, so does pride defile, With the proud, one walks a treacherous mile. Burden not yourself beyond your might, For with the mighty, discord will ignite. Chorus: The rich may wrong, yet still they boast, The poor entreats, but they're treated as a ghost. If you've something, they'll drain you dry, Then leave you shattered, with a scornful eye. Verse 2: If invited by the wealthy and great, Beware their schemes, don't take the bait. Don't vie for their status or be swayed by their charm, For their many words will bring only harm. Chorus: They'll tempt you with their eloquent speech, And your secrets, they'll cunningly breach. Cruelly, they'll use your words against you, And in their deceit, they'll continue to ensue. Bridge: Awake from your slumber, heed these words with care, In peril you walk, so be wise and beware. Verse 3: Love the Lord, seek His salvation, And treat your neighbor with due consideration. For as beasts consort according to kind, So too should humans, in heart and in mind. Chorus: The wolf and the lamb, they shall not unite, And the godly and sinner, they'll never take flight. The rich disdain the poor, in their arrogance, While the poor are cast away without recompense. Outro: Riches to the sinless bring good, But poverty to the ungodly, misunderstood. Let your heart be merry, your countenance bright, And seek wisdom in the parables, day and night.
