Lyrics: DMc Vocal: DMc Music: Suno AI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (The term Kill Your Darlings is a term often used by authors who really like some lines but they don't fit the premise of their book so they put them aside for a later use) I have used this term for some one who is not living their full life because of old ideals and belief's so in order to change this she needed to Kill her darlings to be more fulfilled. It's not about killing anybody. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I still dust the empty picture frames, straighten books I'll never read. The porch light stays burning every night to listen for the garden gate. The kettle sighs just before sunrise, my cup waits upon the bench. Morning light walks every hallway finding nothing out of place. Some things leave without moving some windows never close. The key still hangs beside the doorway where my hand never goes. I've had to kill my darlings lay them down one by one. They kept me believing, the rooms felt smaller as curtains stir around borrowed weather. There's a coat that holds the shape I used to wear. My shoes beside the threshold, still waiting, just sitting there. Dust gathers where the sunlight trace the shape of my hands. Every room keeps perfect records of my forgotten plans. The clock still keeps its time the floor still knows my weight. Outside, something green starts climbing through the rusted garden gate. I open every window, the curtains hardly move dust rose to meet me first. Then somewhere, parts of me I didn't recognise, my darlings held me long enough from a life that was resisted. (Cello.) (Sub-bass) My picture frames stay empty waiting for my life to be lived so I've... I've had to kill my darlings, tucked them away, kept me in a place I no longer want to stay. Oh darlings, the idea of you has kept me away (kept me away).
