[Verse 1] I take the top step slow Knees to the iron rail Pigeons watch me glow From the rusted stairwell Your late reply still burns In my pocket like a match But I let it cool down On the cracked paint patch [Pre-Chorus] Let the screen go dim Let the whole thing drift I sit where the air gets thin And the night takes the lift [Chorus] Fire escape sits Me and my thoughts Fire escape sits Cold little dock You’re down below I’m up in the breeze Fire escape sits And it sits with me (with me) [Verse 2] Laundry lines sway soft Somebody’s radio hums A neon sign across the block Makes the brick wall thrum I swing one loose shoe Tap time on the metal grate If you come looking for me You know right where I wait [Pre-Chorus] Let the screen go dim Let the whole thing drift I sit where the air gets thin And the night takes the lift [Chorus] Fire escape sits Me and my thoughts Fire escape sits Cold little dock You’re down below I’m up in the breeze Fire escape sits And it sits with me (with me) [Bridge] Maybe I don’t need A rush, a run, a flame Maybe I just need This quiet with your name If you climb these steps Don’t come all loud Come with your hands in your pockets And your head in the clouds [Final Chorus] Fire escape sits Me and my thoughts Fire escape sits Cold little dock You’re down below I’m up in the breeze Fire escape sits And it sits with me (with me) Fire escape sits Stay here with me Fire escape sits Till the dark lets go (let go)
