The Woodcutter and the Fox, by Esopo. (EN)

A fox runs fast, in dread The hunters follow near Sees a woodcutter ahead "Help me, hide me here!" The man just hid the fox Inside the wooden hut The hunting group arrives And asks the woodcutter, "What?" "I saw no fox today!" With his strong voice, he lied But with his hand, betrayed And pointed right inside Oh, what's the worth of words? If gestures show the lie The truth flies off like birds Beneath a cheating sky Your actions Must always match the sound Of all your declarations Or trust runs to the ground You can't believe a man Who plays a double round! The hunters didn't see The signal he conveyed They just let it be And walked into the glade The fox then left the hut Without a single word The man became upset "You ungrateful thing! I saved you from the net!" The fox began to sting: "I would have thanked you well From the bottom of my heart If your hands didn't tell A traitor's wicked part" Oh, what's the worth of words? If gestures show the lie The truth flies off like birds Beneath a cheating sky Your actions Must always match the sound Of all your declarations Or trust runs to the ground You can't believe a man Who plays a double round! "Words and actions... must align..."
