At Lover's Mercy - Cover «Истомный зной, но мне отрадна...» Фёдор Сологуб
[At Lover's Mercy] The heat grips by the shoulder, "hush" burns my ear, lover strong and heavy, In its embrace, here dwells my solace mixed with a stash of fear, In verdant silence, in the forest's grace, Where I inhale the dizzying moan of ancient pines Like draught of wine that darkly crystallines. That hush transforms to song within my chest, And all life's blazing colors pale and rest Beneath a twilight gently violet-made As storm-clouds brood before the sky will fade. Yet how I recoil from the world's return, From fields and villages where mortals yearn, Where restless turmoil, thick as oxen's yoke, Cuts through existence like a serpent's stroke. Sweet silence! Sweet dominion void of sound! I spiral skyward, weightless and unbound While far below, that tedious earthly ache Crawls on its belly like a cunning poisonous snake. Heat-lightning flickers, pale upon the dark, Yet leaves no radiance to guide or mark The withered path where trembling grasses bow And fear, horror sleeps gently coiled in each ditch below. Yet grant me hours, more hours still to dream and roam These shadowed sanctums that have grown my home, Where sighs come sweetly, where beneath my feet Moss yields in fragrance, tender, cool and neat. No soul encounters me upon this way, No voice demands what brings me here to stray, No reaper's blade will ever cut the thread Of visions dancing in my love-sick, dizzy, dreaming head.
