The television is staring at the wall. A coffee cup is freezing on the tray. I hear the echoes of a footstep in the hall, But you are miles and miles away. The traffic lights are blinking out of time. We packed the boxes and we locked the door. We shook our hands and said it was the end. But I don't know what we're running for, When I'm just looking for my friend. We drew a line right through the heavy sand, And swore we’d walk a separate way. But every road I travel down, Just brings me back to yesterday. We cut the string, but we are still tied... Yeah, there’s a magnet deep inside. A broom is sweeping up a broken glass. The telephone is sleeping on the floor. I watch the shadows of the evening pass, And wonder who is keeping score. I know you're looking at the same old moon. [Music pulls back, very quiet and sparse] The morning sun is knocking on the blind. The radio is humming something sad. You’re walking heavy on my wandering mind, The best mistake I ever had. You can't erase a shadow from the sun. We drew a line right through the heavy sand, And swore we’d walk a separate way. But every road I travel down, Just brings me back to yesterday. We cut the string, but we are still tied... Yeah, there's a magnet deep inside. Two rivers running to the same old sea. You can’t hide from gravity.
