In This World ---------------- The river carves and tears apart the ground It coils and cuts toward somewhere cold and far The lake lies flat without a single sound Its surface too untouched to hold a scar The woods consume whatever light remains And dusk dissolves in slow and hollow rains Restless Relentless I watch the world perform its quiet show A scene I witness but will never know My soul stands still before the earth's display No charm can pull me from this hollow core I walk these grounds like ash that's blown away The warmth of life can't reach me anymore The living have their sun, their heat, their cries But I have only cold and empty skies Unmoved. Untouched. From hill to hill I carry this tired gaze And find no rest inside this endless maze What are these valleys, palaces, and halls? These cottages whose beauty leaves me cold? The river runs beside these crumbling walls One soul has gone and left me unconsoled I travel every corner, every place And happiness has left without a trace One face is missing and the world goes hollow A path of grief is all that's left to follow The turning of my days will never cease The sun has risen up for other eyes I watch it fall and feel no inner peace The weight of all this emptiness will rise Exiled upon this land, I ask no more This brief and borrowed life holds nothing in store All is emptied where you used to be And nothing in this world can set me free Exiled upon this land, I ask no more This brief and borrowed life holds nothing in store Nothing Nothing Nothing... --- "In This World" Copyright © 2026 Rick n' Stolti.
