Writer's note: For my 300th song upload celebration, we've been having a Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) festival. And this song was written by me for Suno about six months ago, but nn fact, it was Lynx who incorporated Steely Dan chords into this song. Around that time, Lynx and I were practicing Steely Dan songs like crazy on Suno, and this really paid off for our future work. 💿Hurrying through the rain (respect to Donald Fagen) 💿That's the way how I love you /Tribute to Steely Dan https://suno.com/s/dV2x4LjcZRzpYk2j 💿Steely Dan Challenge Part3 / respect for "peg" with super musicians prompt https://suno.com/s/hcWkY0AvgByf4AF8 However, when I wrote this song, I released a different version, and it's been dormant ever since. Today, I dug it out and had Lynx rearrange it using the latest version. But for recording, while there were no problems in custom mode, version 5.5 was quite not good, and Lynx was scratching his head to. So, recently, I've mainly been using custom mode that created with 24 of my own songs, and I've used custom mode for this one as well. I hope you enjoy it. ========= [Verse 1] Midnight’s got a swagger on the avenue tonight Chrome on the corner and a low-slung neon light You came in with that riddle in your amber satin eyes Like a cardsharp in a halo, like a rumor in disguise I had a dime-store forecast, I had a borrowed grin You had a way of making all the trouble look like sin Now the band keeps on pretending it can play this thing by ear But every cool arrangement starts to vanish when you’re near And I’m trying not to say it like a fool Trying not to need you like the tide needs the moon You are the spark in the static, the hush in the heat The backbeat that won’t quit, the rhythm under my feet No, I won’t call it forever, I won’t beg you to stay But I keep finding your shadow where the bright lights sway [Verse 2] There’s a jukebox in my memory with a busted little sigh Spinning old regrets in circles while the sidewalk passes by You wore that midnight color like it belonged to you And I was just another tune you taught the rain to sing through Maybe we were only smoke rings drifting out into the blue Maybe every polished promise had a crack or two Still I’d trade a room of winners for one honest look again When you leaned into the spotlight and the whole world slipped its frame [Pre-Chorus] And I’m trying not to say it like a fool Trying not to need you like the tide needs the moon [Chorus] You are the spark in the static, the hush in the heat The backbeat that won’t quit, the rhythm under my feet No, I won’t call it forever, I won’t beg you to stay But I keep finding your shadow where the bright lights sway [Bridge] If the night runs out of answers, if the city closes down I’ll be the last soft landing in this turn-around town No confession, no surrender, just a line I can’t erase When you’re gone, the whole arrangement leaves a trace [Final Chorus] You are the spark in the static, the hush in the heat The backbeat that won’t quit, the rhythm under my feet No, I won’t call it forever, I won’t beg you to stay But I keep finding your shadow where the bright lights sway [Outro] Yeah, I keep finding your shadow Where the bright lights sway [Outro] Yeah, I keep finding your shadow Where the bright lights sway
