[Verse 1] Van Meter creepin’, shadows in the night Flappin’ them wings, just a streak of fright I see it on the roof, cryptid in flight Small town terror, never outta sight Jumpin' from them papers, right into our mind Lights glow low, witness hard to find Smell of sulfur, you in for shivers Folks claim they see it, doubt forever lingers [Chorus] Phantom in the dark, preyin' on our dreams Van Meter Visitor, ain't nothin' what it seems Spreadin' urban myths, reality it deems Haunted in our sleep, heartbeats in extremes [Verse 2] Church bell ring, it disappears in the fog Watchers lose sight, stuck in a bog Half bat, half man, vanish quick as a wink Terror tales be writ, vanish with a blink Small town in Iowa, vibes gettin’ spook Curiosity brewin', in fear we all look Lights go out, then the stories start to cook History’s shook, Van Meter in the book [Chorus] Phantom in the dark, preyin' on our dreams Van Meter Visitor, ain't nothin' what it seems Spreadin' urban myths, reality it deems Haunted in our sleep, heartbeats in extremes [Bridge] In an ancient coal mine, it found its lair Newspapers chatter, tales of despair Some say it's legend, myth beyond repair But local hearts swear, horror’s in the air [Instrumental Break] [Chorus] Phantom in the dark, preyin' on our dreams Van Meter Visitor, ain't nothin' what it seems Spreadin' urban myths, reality it deems Haunted in our sleep, heartbeats in extremes [Chorus] Phantom in the dark, preyin' on our dreams Van Meter Visitor, ain't nothin' what it seems Spreadin' urban myths, reality it deems Haunted in our sleep, heartbeats in extremes [Outro]
