[Intro] In a pine wood cabin, in Storrytellerz Village down low Sat a boy named Haxxler with a dream and a banjo It was a cheap old thing with a busted fifth string But he vowed he'd make that rusty bucket sing [Verse 1] He'd practice all day from the sun's first light 'Til his fingers were blistered in the pale moonlight He learned all the breakdowns, the clawhammer too But "good" wasn't enough, he had to be brand new He wanted the fire, that lightning-fast sound To be the best damn picker the whole world around [Chorus] He cried, "Oh, Lord in heaven, or whoever's down there!" "I'd give up my soul for a talent beyond compare!" "Just make my hands faster, make my music fly!" "I wanna be a legend 'fore the day I die!" (Oh, lawd!) [Verse 2] A crack of red lightning, the smell of burnt gin The cabin door opened and a stranger walked in He was dressed all in black with a sly, wicked grin Said, "Son, I heard your prayer, now where do we begin?" "I'll wager my banjo of fire and bone" "Against that little soul you happen to own." (Heh heh heh) [Chorus] And Haxxler said, "Mister, you've got yourself a deal!" "I'd give up my soul for a talent that's real!" "So make your hands faster, make your music fly!" "I'm gonna be a legend 'fore the day I die!" [Bridge] The Devil he laughed and he stomped on the floor And he grabbed his banjo, which pulsed to the core The frets were of bone and the strings were of fire He played of damnation and endless desire [Duelling Banjos] Devil Part: (Woo! Burnin' it up now!) Haxxler Part: (Go, Hax, go!) [Verse 3] It wasn't a bad note, it wasn't a sin It was just a bent truth that the Devil couldn't win His ears were attuned to pure evil and hate That god like glitched Banjo sealed his terrible fate! The Devil, he hollered, a horrible sound That one tag of chaos made him come all unwound! He tore at his strings, then he tore at his skin (Aaaargh!) Cursed the clever boy who just did him right in! And with a final scream, he just came apart Leavin' nothin' behind but a broken devil's heart! [Outro] The smoke cleared away on the old cabin floor Lay the Devil's fine banjo, and nothin' else more Haxxler picked it up, and it fit in his hand (Felt right) Now if you hear a sound ringin' all 'cross the land That's the legend they call "Wild Haxxler," king of the strings Playin' the devil's own banjo for the joy that it brings! (And he never played better!)
