I’m crying and I don’t know why, Something’s staring from the corner of my mind. Holding me down like I’m sinking slow, Reaching for air but the waves won’t let me go. I smile when they ask if I’m doing okay, Hoping they don’t see the cracks in my armor. There’s something here I can’t define, Something pulling at the edges of my life. I can’t see the thing that’s holding me down, But it’s heavy as the dark when no one’s around. It must be the shadow… I can’t breathe, eat, sleep, talk, walk. Please, somebody save me. It’s like a blade in my chest again and again, Tears falling and I can’t explain. The world keeps turning like it doesn’t care, And inside me a storm tears through the air. I can’t see the thing that’s holding me down… It must be the shadow. My anxiety’s raging like a wildfire, Every heartbeat feels like zero desire. This thing inside keeps taking control, I’m losing the rhythm, losing the hold. People are looking; act normal and smile, But the waves keep rising mile after mile. I’m trying to stand but the ground won’t stay, Trying to speak but the words slip away. I’m reaching out through the noise, Hoping someone hears my voice. I’m fighting through the fear inside, Trying not to drown this time. It must be the shadow… I can’t breathe, eat, sleep, talk, walk. Please, somebody save me. But maybe there’s a light beyond this pain, A place where I can stand again. The world keeps turning — maybe I can too, If I find a hand to pull me through. I can’t see the thing that’s holding me down… But I’m still reaching past the shadow. Hopefully you can too!....
