[Intro] [fingerpicked acoustic guitar enters] So this is the first poem that I've actually written in like 24 years. It's called I Walk Alone and it's for anyone fighting a terminal illness because those are pretty much the strongest people I know because they want you to live happy lives without anyone having to worry about them. So that kind of selflessness is a rare gem. [Verse 1] So, you live life to the fullest you're careless and free Not realizing what lies dormant a beast you can't see Nor hear But there's one sense you can rely on touch and feel Feel and touch one and the same you will agree Are they different? No and yes ever so much as can be You awake one morning but you're not your usual self Something is different inside the warning signs point to your health You're not usually this tired or usually this weak Today's the very first time the two of you will meet You go to the doctor the bad news is confirmed Now a decision needs made to forever walk alone Or to forever have the people who love you in tears worry and concern Your decision is made and it's made with the heart You think to yourself, it's okay, I've been alone from the start You make fake smiles and hidden pain a new form of your own art A new form of your own art You ask God for guidance and strength as to never break anyone's heart Just you and the beast know about the lonely journey that you're about to embark These words can never be spoken your silence stays golden Not a word about it will be uttered until your meeting with the gates from pearls starts to open Now you're the world's greatest liar but you lie from the heart Only those who walk lonely can tell the two apart A numbered amount of days breaths from your lungs beats from your heart [chorus] I walk alone, alone I walk, I walk alone in the dark Forever burdened by my silence, alone I remain As to never break the ones who I love or ever break their heart I walk alone, alone I walk, I walk alone in the dark. [2nd verse] Only on the day the day yes that I go On that day before I perish my story will be told and the truth will unfold A story of a man who keeps a heart of gold And an internal beast more than a hundred thousand years old Courage and strength he summons daily The beast he slays again another battle is victorious but the war is a far cry from over A battle-hardened soldier who fights wars that are unseen He fights for what is right outlasting a death sentence that was governed and issued by the internal beast that's unseen He outlasted death itself only those who walk lonely know what I mean [chorus] [3rd verse] Forever burdened by my silence, even in a large crowd alone I remain Unseen demons and beasts I slay daily Only those who walk lonely have the ability to see You might ask yourself, how do I know so much about those who walk alone? How is it that I have the ability, the ability to see the lonely? The ability to just see? Because the man who walks ever so lonely in this poem, that lonely man is me. [chorus]
