[Intro - spoken, young child female voice] Halloween is tonight! And I still have to decide what I'm going to wear... [Verse 1 - young child female voice] Should I be a witch, or maybe a ghost? A princess, a zombie, which one do I like most? But Mum found the answer hanging in my room: My werewolf costume, fluffy, warm, with plenty of room! It's even better than the one I wore last year, When I was a mummy, wrapped from there to here. Charleen is a witch, with her broom by her side, Peter is a ghost, and Jenny's a skeleton tonight. Chris is a vampire, with long pointed teeth, And little drops of blood at the corner underneath. We'll walk down the street and knock on every door, And fill our bags with candy, maybe more and more! [Rap - young child female voice] Mum says, "Remember, stay together tonight. No child goes alone, and stay where it's light. And never go inside a house you don't know." "Yes, Mum, we know! We know! Now can we go?" [Ding-dong!] [Chorus] Tonight I'm a werewolf, out under the moon, Tonight we're going trick-or-treating, and we're leaving soon! With my friends beside me, we're ready to go, Tonight I'm a werewolf, in the Halloween glow! [Verse 2] Yesterday we carved a pumpkin face, Put a little candle in its proper place. Now it shines by the doorway, warm and bright, A funny little monster guarding us tonight. And look at the sky, the moon has just appeared. It's a full moon tonight, and I wish it never disappeared. I could watch it for hours, shining up there, Sometimes I wish I could fly to it, if I only knew how to get there. [Pre-Chorus - softer] But maybe someday... Not tonight. Tonight we're going down the street, Under the moonlight. [Chorus] Tonight I'm a werewolf, out under the moon, Tonight we're going trick-or-treating, and we're leaving soon! With my friends beside me, we're ready to go, Tonight I'm a werewolf, in the Halloween glow! [Rap - rhythmic storytelling] Door number one, candy! Door number two, more! Chocolate and some gummy things, A handful on the floor! "Happy Halloween!" "Thank you!" We laugh and run along. The moon is getting higher, And the night is getting long. Then we reach a house we've never seen before. No lights in the windows, no pumpkins by the door. There's one little pumpkin sitting on the ground. We ring the bell... But nobody makes a sound. We ring it once again. A light comes on upstairs. [Break - whispered] Mum said... don't go inside. [Instrumental pause - theremin] Then something moves above us. We all look at the sky. A shadow crosses over the roof... And an owl goes flying by! [spoken, relieved] Oh. It's only an owl. [Verse 3 - quieter] We keep on walking, laughing in the night, Until I hear some footsteps somewhere out of sight. Step... Step... Step... We all stop. I turn around. There's nobody there. [Chorus - restrained] Tonight I'm a werewolf, under the full moon, Maybe there's a real one following us soon... My friends are getting nervous, but I'm trying not to show, Because tonight I'm a werewolf... And werewolves don't get scared, you know. [Outro - spoken, very soft] When we got home, my bag was full of sweets. Mum asked me, "Did you have fun?" I said, "Yes. And Mum... I think a real wolf heard me tonight." [soft piano] She laughed. [very distant wolf howl] Maybe next year... I'll be a vampire. [End]
