Nobody Shaped Hole

[Verse 1] Penny - stage left, the faithful need I need Nobody, I need Nobody, still — knittin' by the window on my lonely little hill. The porch light keeps on flickerin' and I don't know why — but I need Nobody home before this waitin' makes me cry. [Verse 2] Calypso - stage right, the lonely need I need Nobody, I need Nobody too — the house is soft and empty and there's nothing left to do. He woke up and he walked out and he left me in the smoke — and I never even told him... I need Nobody. (the loneliest joke.) [Verse 3] Police - center, the empty pursuit Chief: I HAVE Nobody! I have Nobody in my sights! Blinded my boy at the coffee shop — I've hunted him for nights! Put his name up on the board — Cops: (staring) ...Chief, the board just says NOBODY. We got nobody, Chief. Chief: (deranged) THAT'S HIM! I HAVE NOBODY! (beat) ...wait. [Pre-Chorus] Interleave - the pun matrix braiding Penny: I need Nobody— Calypso: I need Nobody— Chief: I have Nobody— Cops: (deadpan) ...we have no one, sir. [Chorus] Chief: How do you ARREST a man named Nobody?! Every report says Nobody did it! Every witness says I saw Nobody! My own SON says NOBODY BLINDED HIM— Cops: ...so... case closed? [Verse 4] Chief: NEVER! I'll hunt Nobody to the ends of the earth! The crew - comic tag from the holding cell Crew: Hey Chief — you want Nobody? We KNOW Nobody. We came here WITH Nobody. Nobody's our best friend! Chief: (losing it) ARREST THEMSELVES! I mean— GAAAH— [Bridge] Penny: (soft) I need Nobody 'cause I love him— Calypso: (sad) I need Nobody 'cause I'm lonely— Chief: (raging) I have Nobody 'cause I HATE him— All Three: —and Nobody... Nobody's slippin' right between us all. [Final Chorus] Penny: I need Nobody! Calypso: I need Nobody! Chief: I HAVE Nobody! All: Everybody's got a Nobody-shaped hole — some need him, some hate him, but Nobody's got the only thing whole: he's runnin' home, he's runnin' home, past the need and the hate and the law — 'cause the one thing nobody can hold... is Nobody at all. (Blackout on three reaching lights and one empty center. Ozzy's gone. Home-bound.)
