He wanders through the alleyways on chilling Autumn nights, Hungry for the shadows and afraid of glaring lights. He lurks behind the pumpkin patches, hiding in the oak, Concealed beneath the heavy fog and thick crimson smoke. He listens for the laughter of the children on the street, Searching for a traveler who’s looking for a treat. His claws are long and jagged, and his yellow eyes are bright, He tracks his foolish victim through the crisp October night. When you hear a sudden footsteps echoing behind your tread, You think it's just the rustling of the leaves of orange and red. He stalks you to the doorway as you reach to turn the key, A silent, hunting shadow that you never get to see. He opens up his gaping jaw and swallows you whole down, Then slips away to find another target in the town. He’s devoured every neighbor from the bottom of the hill, And when the moon is high and full, he’s hunting for a kill.
