BEAUTIFUL SOUP [Cold Open — distant waves] Why cry? [Deep trembling voice] Long story. [Female whisper] We have time. [Bass voice] No, you don’t. [Low groove enters] Ooh—wah Ooh—wah Stir it slow… [Verse 1 — smoky female lead] Found him by the water Heavy in his shell Crying over memories He couldn’t tell Gryphon said, “He ain’t got Nothing to be sad about” Turtle took a long breath— Then the low end came out [Pre-Drop] One tear Hit the tide One blue note Opened wide Stir left Let it roll Something warm Inside the cold [MAIN DROP] BEAUTIFUL SOUP! Deep in the bowl Hot little rhythm For a tired old soul BEAUTIFUL SOUP! Low-low heat Let that heavy shell Move with the beat Ooh-wah! Glub-glub! Stir that truth Everything hurts— But the groove feels good [Instrumental Dance Break] (Ooh… wah… glub-ka-glub…) (Stir… dip… roll… switch!) (Huh!) BRRRAH—BLOOP! [Verse 2 — deep pocket] Lessons every morning Less than yesterday Reeling and writhing Till the hours slipped away Drawling and stretching Fainting into coils Learning how to dance While the world spoiled Couldn’t say what happened Couldn’t name the ache But every time he told it The shoreline would shake [Pre-Drop] Cry-cry Don’t explain Salt in the water Soul in the pain You don’t need A reason why To let that strange feeling Move your spine [DROP — call and response] What’s in the bowl? DON’T ASK ME! Why does he cry? LET HIM BE! What makes that shell move? LOW FREQUENCY! Then stir that sorrow Into something sweet! [Groove Section] Dip down Roll slow Let that blue bass Take control Shell back Chin high Dance like a tear Never left your eye (Ooh-wah!) (Glub-ka!) (Stir!) That’s right. [Bridge — huge soulful vocal] Maybe every heart Has a story it can’t prove Maybe every wound Still deserves a place to move You don’t have to fix it You don’t have to know Sometimes something beautiful Can rise from feeling low [Silence] Is it real turtle soup? [Mock Turtle voice] That’s not the point. [HEAVIEST DROP] BEAUTIFUL SOUP! Heat that bass Let that sorrow Put a smile on your face Ooh-wah! Glub-glub! Shake that shell If you’re going through it— Go through it well! Low-low Stir it deep Wake that rhythm You forgot you keep Cry if you need Then tell the truth— We’re all just swimming In beautiful soup! [Extended Groove Outro] (Ooh… wah…) (Glub-ka-glub…) (Stir it slow…) [Deep voice] Beautiful… [Final sub-bass hit] Soup.
