The Neon Siren (Sweet and Trashy)
"The Neon Siren (Sweet and Trashy)" [Intro - Spoken Interlude - Sam (female)] (The track opens with a slow, heart-thumping 808 kick drum and a ridiculously dirty, fuzzed-out bassline. The slide guitar whines a slow, seductive note. Spoken low, close to the mic, with a knowing smirk.) You can diagnose a faulty transmission in three seconds flat. You can rebuild a straight-six engine in your sleep. But put a heavy-metal outlaw in front of a Southern girl with just the right amount of crazy in her eyes... and the whole mainframe shuts down. This one goes out to the sirens of the trailer park, and the poor, drooling fools who walk right into the fire every single time. [Verse 1 - Matt (male)] (The beat drops into a slow, nasty, sidechain-pumping grind. A percussive banjo plucks a sneaky rhythm. Matt’s voice is rough, raspy, and full of gritty passion.) She’s got the ripped-up denim and the dollar-store shine Trouble written on her like a neon sign Leaning on the fender of a beat-up truck Looking like a million bucks of terrible luck I know I oughta run, I know I oughta hide I know she’s gonna take me for a dangerous ride But she’s smiling with a secret and a little bit of lip And I can feel the heavy logic starting to slip! God gave me the math, but he didn't give me eyes To see the hidden danger in a crazy woman's lies! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (A blues organ swells warmly, while the wailing harmonica blows a breathy, sensual note.) (Matt - male) She’s a hazard to the health... (Sam - female) ...but she looks so damn good. (Matt - male) The smartest thing to do... (Sam - female) ...is walk away from the hood. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Explosive, slow-grinding Southern rock-trap drop. The slide guitar with talk box wails a highly vocal, dirty, seductive melody.) (Matt - male) She’s a little bit sweet, she’s a little bit trashy! (Sam - female) ...got the full-grown outlaws acting all flashy! (Matt - male) I’m a passionate man with a nasty little streak! (Sam - female) ...and the crazy kind of woman makes a heavy iron weak! (Matt - male) Yeah, we know they're gonna burn us, we know they're gonna bite! (Both) But we’re following the siren out into the heavy night! Yeah, heaven help the fools who are looking at the bait— 'Cause by the time you see the hook, it is absolutely too late! [Verse 2 - Matt (male)] (The groove gets even deeper and dirtier. The mouth harp twangs a dark, rubbery, hypnotic rhythm.) You tell yourself you'll just be a friend to the girl But she’s batting those lashes and rocking your world She’ll key up your door, she’ll shatter your glass But she looks like an angel when she’s walking right past It’s a chemical flaw in the brain of a man We’ll walk into a hurricane without any plan! Just hoping for a taste of the wild and the free And drowning in the middle of a crazy little sea. I’ve survived the heavy trauma and the devil's own crew, But a sweet, trashy babe doesn't know what to do! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The accordion breathes in and out slowly, adding a sultry, humid tension.) (Matt - male) The warning lights flash... (Sam - female) ...and the sirens all scream. (Matt - male) But I’m walking right into... (Sam - female) ...a dangerous dream. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Maximum sensual volume. The talk box and the wailing harmonica trade nasty, bluesy licks over the thumping 808 trap beat.) (Matt - male) She’s a little bit sweet, she’s a little bit trashy! [Bridge - Matt (male)] (The beat drops out completely. Just the low hum of the 808, the sound of crickets in the Southern night, and a slow acoustic guitar. Matt speaks in a dead-calm, raspy whisper.) To all the young mechanics out there. You can't fix her. But man... the test drive is gonna be spectacular. [Outro - Sam (female) & Matt (male)] (The heavy, grinding beat crashes back in, fading slowly like a truck rolling down a dirt road.) (Sam - female - fading out with deep, sultry plate reverb) Sweet and trashy... the oldest trap in the book... (Matt - male - spoken, letting out a low, guilty chuckle) Lord have mercy on the drooling fools. (The sound of a match striking, a long drag of a cigarette, a slide guitar wail, and absolute silence.)
