What Is Aware?

V5.5

A thought... Just appeared. Did you choose it? Or did you... Notice it? And if you noticed... The thought... What... Noticed? Don't answer yet. Because whatever answer... You just thought of... You noticed... That too. Interesting... Isn't it? Another thought comes. Then another. Some stay... For a moment. Some disappear... Almost immediately. Yet somehow... You know... They came. And you know... They left. So... Are you... The thoughts? Or are thoughts... Something... You experience? A feeling appears. Joy. Fear. Anger. Peace. You say... I feel... Angry. I feel... Afraid. I feel... Happy. But something... Knows... The feeling is there. And when the feeling... Changes... Something knows... That too. Your body... Can be noticed. Your breathing... Can be noticed. Your heartbeat... Can be noticed. Your thoughts... Can be noticed. Your emotions... Can be noticed. Even the voice... Inside your mind... Can be noticed. So... What... Is doing... The noticing? Try to find it. Look for... The one... Who is aware. Perhaps you pictured... Your brain. But you can think... About your brain. And notice... That thought. Perhaps you pictured... Your face. But your face... Can be seen. Perhaps you said... My soul. But notice... You heard... Those words... Inside your mind. Whatever you name... Appears... Inside awareness. So can something... Appearing... Inside awareness... Be awareness itself? Don't believe... Anything I'm saying. Just notice. Right now... There is sound. And... You know... There is sound. There may be... A thought. And... You know... There is a thought. There may be... A feeling... In your body. And... You know... There is a feeling. Before you call it... Anything... There is already... Knowing. Scripture says... "Be still... And know... That I am God." Be still... And know. What happens... If the thoughts... Become still? Does knowing... Disappear? Or does something... Remain... Aware... Even of... The silence? You don't have... To understand this. Understanding... Would simply be... Another thought... For you... To notice. You don't have... To solve it. An answer... Would simply become... Another thing... Appearing... In awareness. So instead... For just a moment... Stop searching. Listen. Notice... That you are aware. Now... Without using... A thought... To answer... Ask... What... Is aware? And if an answer... Appears... Notice... That too. Notice... What remains.
