[Verse 1] Well, Dolly, looks like I will have to wait Till I get to heaven by the golden gate To sing with you where the choir rolls on And every broken heart finds its song [Verse 2] I'll try my best to walk your footsteps true Writing songs for the world, the way you do Maybe someday they'll play mine on the radio For your tribute, so folks will always know [Chorus] You were a great woman, kind and strong You gave the weary a place in your song Now you're up there with the legends in God's choir While I stay down here and carry your fire I'll keep on singing till my journey is through Then, by God's grace, I'll sing with you [Verse 3] You taught us mercy can sound like a melody And a little hope can set a heart free From a mountain home to a Sunday pew Your words found a way to pull us through [Chorus] You were a great woman, kind and strong You gave the weary a place in your song Now you're up there with the legends in God's choir While I stay down here and carry your fire I'll keep on singing till my journey is through Then, by God's grace, I'll sing with you [Bridge] So rest easy now, your work is done You left a blessing for everyone When God calls me home beyond the blue I'll bring these songs and sing them with you [Final Chorus] You were a great woman, kind and strong You gave the weary a place in your song Now you're up there with the legends in God's choir And I can feel your love lifting me higher I'll keep on singing till my journey is through Then, by God's grace, I'll sing with you Yes, by God's grace, I'll sing with you [Outro] Till then I'll carry on, faithful and true Till the day I come singing with you
