The Silence
All night alone upon the shore, He slept and saw his dreams. And in his mind, he heard the roar Of sheer and silent streams. As morning waves began to roll, He walked out on the pier, A whispering sound that filled his soul Was all that he could hear. The light, the dark, a beating heart, The work that filled his day. He sailed through life and played his part, As sounds all fell away. And when the moon began to gleam Up in the velvet sky, He’d walk into the woods to dream And let the world go by. It seemed to him, beneath the pine, He’d get a secret sign. He’d fall into a state divine, A marvelous design. On wings of dreams, he'd start to fly To some forgotten place, Where there's no sound, no word, no cry, Just endless, quiet space. For everyone, there is a fate, A moment, soon or late. When everything we learn and state, A quiet will await. The earthly noises will be gone, Behind a silent wall, And we will hear from dusk till dawn The clearest, loudest call.
