There are places sadness takes you that no one else can see. The room is full of voices. I turn the ice inside my glass. Someone asks me how I've been. I smile and let the question pass. The light falls warm across the table. I see it shining on my skin. I hear the laughter rise around me, But none of it is getting in. Everything still glows, But nothing reaches me. I drift a little further Where no one else can see. Not dark. Not empty. Just deep. Just deep. I leave my coat across the chair. The traffic moves somewhere below. My phone lights up beside my hand. I watch it fade and let it go. And I drift here awhile, Quiet enough to hear All the things I never let myself feel In the light. I'm tired of saying, "I'm just tired." Of finding something else to say. If this is where the feeling finds me, I won't turn it away. Everything still glows, But nothing reaches me. Still, something in the silence Is coming back to me. Not dark. Not empty. Just deep. Let me feel. In the light. In the light.
