The Devil's Bridge

V5.5

(Intro: Slow acoustic guitar, mysterious and floating psychedelic organs) (Spoken word in a dark, slow, chilling narrator voice): Deep in the mountains... where the shadows crawl... There was a village. And they needed a bridge. But the river... oh, the river took everything. (Fast rock riff kicks in, heavy and driving) (Verse 1) Up in the high peaks, winter is cold! The villagers young and the villagers old! They wanted to cross to the other side, Where the green grass grows and the maidens hide! "Build us a bridge!" the elders cried! They swung their hammers, they sweat and they swore, But the river was wild, and the river was war! The water swallowed the stone, Left the builders alone, weeping and bone! (Pre-Chorus) And the leader screamed out to the stormy sky: "Someone build us a bridge or we’re gonna die!" And out of the fog, with a sulfur smell... The Devil appeared with a voice from Hell! (Chorus) (Sung by a deep, raspy, distorted demonic growl): "I will build you a bridge across the dark! Three days of labor, stone and spark!" (Answered immediately by a massive, powerful crowd choir in high clean harmony): "What is your price? What do we pay?" (Sung by a deep, raspy, distorted demonic growl): "The very first soul to cross today!" (Answered immediately by a massive, powerful crowd choir in high clean harmony): "A deal is struck! Let the stone be laid!" The bridge of the devil is ready-made! (Verse 2) The bridge was standing, iron and grand, And the Devil was waitin’, blocking the land! (Sung by a deep, raspy, distorted demonic growl): "Give me your soul! The first one is mine!" He laughed in the night as he crossed the line. But the villagers cheated the fiend with a trick, They played it smart and they played it quick! (Bridge – Psychedelic breakdown) Who did they send across the stone? Was it a hero of flesh and bone? No! They sent a goat with a furry beard! (Sung by a massive, powerful crowd choir cheering happily in high clean harmony): "That saved our butt!" (Sung by a deep, raspy, distorted demonic growl, screaming in high-pitched, furious, insane rage): "WHAT IS THIS?! A GOAT?! YOU TRICKED ME, FOOLS! NOOOOO!" (Guitar Solo: Wild, fast, heavy wah-wah and double-bass drums) (Outro) So the goat walked free, And the Devil lost his mind! He ripped up a giant boulder, Left it all behind! He tried to smash the bridge to dust, An old woman’s cross turned his soul to rust! He dropped the stone in the mountain land, Where the Devil's Rock still makes a stand! (Sung by a high, powerful lead rock vocalist with massive energy): YEAHHH! ROCK ON! (Final heavy guitar hit and feedback)
