Overcome Evil With Good (Romans 12:17–21)

V5.5

[VERSE 1] I’ll have regard for what is good In the sight of every man. As much as it depends on me, I’ll live in peace again. I won’t trade wounds like currency, I won’t match their fire with heat— I’ll choose the higher road with Jesus, And lay my anger at His feet. [PRE-CHORUS] Do not repay evil for evil. Live at peace with all people. Let God judge what will be. I won’t become what once hurt me. [CHORUS] Overcome evil with good, with good, Leave it to God as you should, you should. Leave it to God to deal with His people— So don’t repay evil for evil, Do what is good. [VERSE 2] Do not take revenge, my friend— Leave room for God’s own way. “It is Mine to avenge,” He says, “I will repay.” So I won’t clutch my right to punish, I won’t poison my own peace; I’ll put my anger in His hands And let His justice be complete. [BRIDGE] If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him drink. In doing this you heap burning coals— Let mercy be what makes him think. [CHORUS — bigger] Overcome evil with good, with good, Leave it to God as you should, you should. Leave it to God to deal with His people— So don’t repay evil for evil, Do what is good. [SPOKEN WORD — Scripture] “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord. Therefore, ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” [FINAL CHORUS — downshift, intimate] Overcome evil with good, with good, Leave it to God as you should, you should. Leave it to God to deal with His people— So don’t repay evil for evil, Do what is good. [OUTRO] I won’t become what once hurt me. Lord, overcome evil with good.
