Soft Without Announcing It
I left the kettle on, it sang to an empty room Blue flame under steel, like it knew my name I used to think silence meant something was missing Turns out it’s just the part that won’t lie My keys make a tired little choir on the counter A receipt from last week has my coffee stain on it I keep touching the scar on my knuckle Like a coin I forgot to spend Open the window Let the bus hiss by Let the siren pass through the walls Some things don’t ask to be healed They ask to be held still I learned my heart from the way concrete dries Not all at once Not for anybody It just gets on with it And maybe that’s the whole trick To be soft without announcing it To keep a lamp on for yourself Without pretending it’s for the moon [Instrumental]
