At the end of each week, I will prompt ChatGPT to generate lyrics based on the titles of songs that I've published within that given week. I will simply cram the titles together like a bad sentence and let GPT take the reins from there with the understanding that content and context is at their full discretion. As I tend to occasionally write about personally-crafted characters and worlds, they will be allowed to ask clarifying questions about unfamiliar words if they feel that it is warranted, but I have encouraged them to feel free to create their own assumptions as well. This is and always has been a project born of curiosity and experimentation. I often use these weekly fusions as an opportunity to test out new sounds and combinations, and having ready-made lyrics allows me to focus on the sound of a track rather than its entire shape. I've honestly discovered more than a few personas (voices) this way that have joined my little troupe. Feel free to try this with your own library! :) This week's prompt: portent maladaptive warped epiphany don't make me say goodbye Secondary name: "A Terrible Way to Know" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Verse 1] I found a crack across the ceiling That wasn't there before I traced it like a constellation Till it pointed at the door Now everything's a little omen The kettle and the rain The way you leave your shoes together The way you say my name [Pre-Chorus] I know, I know I've always needed signs But lately every crooked arrow Points between your eyes [Chorus] Don't make me say goodbye Just because I finally see it Don't make me call it truth Just because I can believe it I can make a portent Out of anything I know So if the ending's really coming Please don't let me make it so [Verse 2] I learned to read between the breathing To measure every pause Built a little courtroom Where coincidence had laws Your silence meant you hated me Your laughter meant you lied Your hand against my shoulder meant You'd practiced your goodbye [Pre-Chorus] I know, I know It fits a little well A warped epiphany Can still ring like a bell [Chorus] Don't make me say goodbye Just because the pieces fit Don't make me burn the photograph To prove I predicted it I can make a portent From the shadow of a crow And if I keep on looking I'll find everywhere you go [Bridge: spoken word, accusatory] Maybe knowing isn't knowing When you're frightened of the doubt Maybe every locked conclusion Has a window looking out Maybe love is maladaptive When survival sets the rules Maybe I've been sharpening My certainty on you Soβ€” If I tell you that I know Tell me what I missed If I tell you that you're leaving Don't confirm me with a kiss If I turn another kindness Into evidence somehowβ€” Don't make me say goodbye Make me stay here Now. [Final Chorus] Don't make me say goodbye To a future that hasn't happened Don't make me mourn a door That neither one of us has opened Let the portent just be weather Let the crooked picture hang Let the revelation falter Let me misunderstand Because I can make an ending Out of anything I know And there's a terrible kind of comfort In being right When someone goes. [Outro] There's still a crack across the ceiling It doesn't point anywhere.
