[Verse 1] Fat knight Thin purse Eyes on two housewives He thinks gold and glory They think “teach him a lesson” Letters in the morning Both the same line for line “Meet me where the hedges hide” He doesn’t smell the setup [Chorus] Oh Merry wives of Windsor town Laughing while the lordlings frown Turn his pride to paper crown Watch the mighty tumble down Oh Merry wives So sly So sweet Dancing round him in the street Every scheme he thinks is new They’re three tricks ahead of you [Verse 2] Husbands breathing thunder One trusts One shakes Jealousy like sour wine Spilled all over the table Basket by the back door Laundry piled high He’s hiding under linens Headfirst into the river [Chorus] Oh Merry wives of Windsor town Laughing while the lordlings frown Turn his pride to paper crown Watch the mighty tumble down Oh Merry wives So sly So sweet Dancing round him in the street Every scheme he thinks is new They’re three tricks ahead of you [Bridge] Midnight in the park Children dressed as spirits (hey!) Pinching Clawing Chasing him Till his courage goes missing Young hearts by the oak tree Writing names in the bark While fools and fathers argue Love finds its mark [Chorus] Oh Merry wives of Windsor town Laughing while the lordlings frown Turn his pride to paper crown Watch the mighty tumble down Oh Merry wives So sly So sweet Dancing round him in the street Every scheme he thinks is new They’re three tricks ahead of you
