War looked into the river’s glassy skin /

********* [Intro: Soft ambient river sounds, low piano notes, distant thunder roll, strings slowly rising] War looked into the river’s glassy skin And marveled at the ugliness it found, As if the image, hideous and mean, Against its will laughed back without sound. [Instrumental bridge: Strings and piano weaving a tense, reflective theme] The river, stunned by shockwaves, roared and poured; Its sudden flooding promised doom and fear. High up above, it thumbed the clouds' horde, Still racing forward, frenzied and unclear. [Musical interlude: Cymbals swell, electric guitar tremolo, building intensity] Her depths are filled with blood down to the floor; From that, her sadness thickens as she flows. She’d flee the war that stains her more and more, But cannot change the course that she once chose. [Short instrumental: Low cello melody, light percussion heartbeat rhythm] Her banks restrain her, clenched in rigid hold; No password or key phrase can be applied. She worries that the foe, unkind and cold, Against her wishes drinks her muddied tide. [Bridge: Rising strings and horns, male vocal hums softly with reverb] She hauls her freight and does not crouch or hide, She knows the river’s labor to the core, And offers up her back with patient pride To pontoon bridges set from shore to shore. [Instrumental build-up: Percussion and full orchestra, tension peaks] She served the front at first with earnest might; Then turned herself into a living front, She fled, her tears salty in her flight, Like seas that waited for her far beyond. [Calm reprise: Soft piano chords, distant choir echoing “beyond”] She dared to flee through centuries untamed, Unbridled in her zeal to reach the end. The river, like a sacred verse, sustained Its flight, as though the Lord’s own hand it penned. [Outro: River sounds fade, strings resolve in major key, faint echo of male voice whispers last line]
