Graduation Realities

V5.5

--- Another persona song for the "album". This time, the subject is graduation, and the realities that tend to come with it. The people that you have spent so much of your time with previously, are now able to pursue their own dreams and life goals while you pursue yours. Which tends to mean that often you will lose touch. Life just continues, and some realities are tougher to accept than others. After graduation you also learn the reality that while in school, you were rather "protected". There was more of a support system than your realized, and you only realize that when it's gone. Was fun to stretch the persona a bit and have them do a more serious subject, but still maintain a positive vibe about it. ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Music Build Up] [Verse 1 - Male Vocals - Ned – reflective, steady] Caps in the air, like we’re freezing time Like this moment won’t ever unwind We said “forever” in parking lots Like forever was something we got Phones full of names we swore we’d keep Late night drives, no plans, no sleep But the map unfolds in different ways… And forever starts to fade to days [Pre-Chorus - Female Vocals harmonizing] We thought we’d all just stay the same… But life doesn’t remember names [Chorus] [gentle, grounded] These are the graduation realities Not every “always” always stays with me Some roads bend where I can’t see But they still lead somewhere I can be These are the graduation realities It’s not as simple as it used to be But if I learn to stand on my own feet… Maybe that’s who I’m meant to be [Verse 2 - Male Vocals - Spider + Ned] [Male Vocals - Spider (low, warm)] No more bells to tell me when to move No more safety in a structured groove [Male Vocals - Ned] No one’s there to catch me if I fall No one’s grading me at all [Male Vocals - Spider] Used to have a place, a role, a lane [Male Vocals - Ned] Now it’s mine to build—or break again [Male Vocals - Both] And it’s heavy when it’s all on you… But maybe that means it’s yours to choose [Pre-Chorus] We had a net beneath our climb… Now we’re learning how to trust the line [Chorus] [slightly fuller] These are the graduation realities Not every path comes easily Some days feel like I’m lost at sea But I’m still more than I used to be These are the graduation realities No one’s handing out identity But if I shape who I believe… Maybe that’s who I’m meant to be 🎵 [Bridge - Female Vocals – intimate, hopeful] Maybe we don’t lose the past… Maybe it just doesn’t last the way we thought Maybe we don’t fall apart… We just grow into the people we’re not [Female Vocals] [soft build] And maybe somewhere down the line We’ll look back and realize… We didn’t fail—we just redefined [Musical Interlude] [gentle guitar picking, soft bass movement, light percussion—like footsteps finding rhythm] [Final Chorus - All] [quiet resolve] These are the grounded realities Not everything comes easily But I can build what I believe… And that’s enough to carry me These are the grounded realities Choosing who I want to be And if I keep that honesty… Maybe that’s success to me [Outro] [Male Vocals - Ned + Female Vocals - Both] We said “forever”… we meant it then Now we say “forward”… and start again [soft harmony] Not everything stays… But something remains [Musical Ending] [fade out]
