The Detective's Lament_1b

[Verse] As shadows danced on moonlit nights, A house behind the graves stood right, The detective's footfalls, soft and mild, Entered the abode so dark and wild. [Verse 2] Creaking floorboards told their tales, Of secrets, sighing, ghostly wails, Through cobwebs thick and candle's gleam, He walked alone in twilight's dream. [Chorus] Oh, the horrors he did see, In that house of mystery, Eyes so hollow, whispers near, What befell him, many fear. [Verse 3] A portrait on the wall did leer, Of days gone by and yesteryear, Faces twisted in their plight, Staring in the dim moonlight. [Verse 4] The air grew cold, a chilling breeze, Echoes of old miseries, He tread deeper, heart a'pace, To uncover fate in this dread space. [Bridge] Was it ghosts or his own despair, That caught him in that dreadful snare? The clock struck twelve, howls rang out, He vanished then without a doubt.
