[Verse 1] She lived in silence in a stranger’s home; No name was spoken, no sign was shown. Wherever she walked, the land would thrive; no lack was known where once they just survived. She was neither woman nor owned nor bound, no jewel, no pledge, no royal crown. So long as silence wrapped her stay, good fortune in that house would stay. [Pre-chorus] But a man once rose beyond his station, Forgetting who he was and his good fortune. [Verse 2] Before the king and the circle of men, he spoke cold words again and again: “My wife can run more swiftly and surely than any horse your stables secure.” No eye for her womb, no care for her pain; only law, mockery, pride and disdain. She begged for time, for just one night, but they laughed and forced the fight. [Chorus] Run, Macha, run from the god's command, run through the pain, through the scorned land. Run for the pride that sold your name; run until your blood soaks the earth in shame. When you fall, their fate will fall too — no god runs fast for an untrue king. [Verse 3] She ran. The horses stalled and broke. No man could follow the path she strode. At journey's end, her strength gave way; Two children fell where she lay. In blood and tears, on open ground, she raised her voice — no blade, no sound. [Bridge – The Curse] ‘Nine generations, hear my decree: Nine days each time, wherever you be. When strength is needed most by you, you’ll know the weakness you once drew: The birthing pain, the trembling chill, when war calls loud and blood must spill. I give not death — a harsher toll: remembrance carved into your soul.” [Chorus] Run, Macha, run, and leave this place; no hearth nor home can hold your grace. The blessing dies with every stride; the fields fall silent at your side. What’s forced by power cannot remain — no god, no life, no claimed domain. [Outro] Emain Macha bears her name alone, not her heart nor mercy shown. And every time Ulster falls, they know who answered pride with walls.
