[Intro] [bap-tsk tsk, bap-bap tsk] Got your jacket on the chair Little shoes by the door Coffee's cold on the counter I’m watching the clock once more (hey) [Verse 1] You left early with your backpack Half a smile on your face Said you’d tell me ‘bout your art class When you got back to this place Now the light moves ‘cross the kitchen But this house still feels the same Talking out loud to your picture Just to hear your name [Chorus] I hope your day was awesome Hope you laughed so hard you cried Hope the sun felt like a high-five Right there by your side I’m counting clouds and hours Till I hear your key one day Beatboxing in this quiet room Hope you had a great day (yeah, yeah) Hope you had a great day [Verse 2] Dinner plate in the cupboard I still set out one more Tell the mailman all your stories Like you just walked through the door Every siren makes me wonder Did you make that final train Then I breathe, I close my eyes Say your nickname like a refrain [Chorus] I hope your day was awesome Hope you laughed so hard you cried Hope the sun felt like a high-five Right there by your side I’m counting clouds and hours Till I hear your key one day Beatboxing in this quiet room Hope you had a great day (ohhh) Hope you had a great day [Bridge] [bap tsk-bap tsk, chest thumps] If you’re tired, if you’re lonely Hear this rhythm, that’s my heart Every little silly sound I make Is just to feel you’re not that far (hey) So when the world feels heavy And you don’t know what to say Just remember somewhere in this town I’m praying you had a great day [Chorus] I hope your day was awesome Hope you laughed so hard you cried Hope the sun felt like a high-five Right there by your side I’m counting clouds and hours Till I hear your key one day Beatboxing in this quiet room Hope you had a great day (yeah, yeah) Hope you had a great day [Outro] [bap-tsk tsk, soft hum] Little shoes by the door I’ll be right here, come what may Till I hear your knock and your stories “Dad, I had a great day”
