The Phantom of the Yarrow

Intro {Celtic Flute and mournful Violin introduce a slow, haunting melody. A single, clean electric guitar joins with an echoey arpeggio. Slowly, a deep, ominous bass drum (like a cinematic war drum) begins a slow, deliberate beat.} Verse 1 (Female Vocals - low, melancholic, building intensity) The Dowie Dens o’ Yarrow call, where the water flows blood-red, A challenge sent, a brother’s plot, for the love that he had fled. Eleven men did lie in wait, by the willows dark and grim, He faced them all for one true heart, but his light grew faint and dim. Pre-Chorus (Female Vocals - soaring, dramatic, light distortion on guitar begins to build) She warned him on the moonlit path, she begged him to remain, But honour’s curse and kinsmen’s rage, sealed his fate in the pouring rain. Oh, the bonny bride, she waits in vain, where the mist lies cold and deep, For a whisper from the riverbank, where his final secret sleeps. Chorus (Grand Chorus - full orchestral rock explosion, soaring female vocals, heavy guitar riffs, pumping double bass drums, Celtic flute and violin playing a powerful, fast counter-melody) THE PHANTOM OF THE YARROW! Hear the steel on stone! {Heavy guitar solo, fast and melodic, underpinned by double bass drumming.} His shadow rides the moorlands, for the justice he was owed! A WOUND THAT NEVER CLOSES! A love that will not die! {Epic, sustained power chord.} He haunts the grey, mist-shrouded glen beneath a weeping sky! Verse 2 (Female Vocals - darker, faster tempo, double bass drums continue softly beneath, heavy riffs are muted) They brought his body to her door, with the wounds of all the score, "Make me a bed," the lady cried, "from the linen I have no more." She washed his wounds, she kissed his lips, though cold and deathly pale, The false, black heart of family, forever to prevail. Guitar Bridge/Solo {A dramatic transition: the orchestral elements swell, then suddenly the heavy guitar riffs and double bass drums dominate with a complex, driving rhythmic pattern. A virtuosic, highly melodic guitar solo (Cinematic Power Metal style) takes the lead, incorporating a brief, fast, minor-key break by the Celtic flute/violin, before returning to a soaring, epic guitar climax.} Chorus (Grand Chorus - more intense, majestic, full power) THE PHANTOM OF THE YARROW! Hear the steel on stone! His shadow rides the moorlands, for the justice he was owed! A WOUND THAT NEVER CLOSES! A love that will not die! He haunts the grey, mist-shrouded glen beneath a weeping sky! Bridge (Female Vocals - powerful, dramatic, slowing down, all instruments hit heavy, synchronised chords) For seven years she wore the black, no sun upon her face, She knelt beside the lonely tomb, in that desolate, dark place. And now her spirit joins the wind, a chilling, wailing sound, {Flute and Violin play a high, sustained, eerie note.} The bonny knight and his true love, bound to haunted ground! Outro {The music quickly builds to a final, colossal, crashing chord. The sound decays rapidly, leaving only the slow, deep, fading heartbeat of the bass drum and the single, mournful, echoey note of the Celtic flute, until all sound is gone.} {End}
