[Verse 1] He keeps it tucked away Behind the smile he wears One hand on the door One foot already there I see the scarlet thread Pull tight beneath his skin He says he’s fine, he’s good But I know where to begin [Pre-Chorus] Tell me where it hurts Tell me what you hid Under all that steel There’s a little kid [Chorus] Cut to the core Cut to the core Say what he can’t say Let it crack him open more Cut to the core Cut to the core If he won’t reach for truth I’ll reach down to the core [Verse 2] He laughs at empty rooms He talks like nothing sticks But his eyes give up the game Every time he blinks He’s got a storm in him And a paper-thin disguise I want the real him now Not the one that never cries [Pre-Chorus] Tell me where it hurts Tell me what he needs I can take the weight If he’ll hand me the keys [Chorus] Cut to the core Cut to the core Say what he can’t say Let it crack him open more Cut to the core Cut to the core If he won’t reach for truth I’ll reach down to the core [Bridge] Let the armor fall Let the silence shake I’ve seen the boy he buried I know his heart can break No more running blind No more holding back One honest touch And he comes back to black [Chorus] Cut to the core Cut to the core Say what he can’t say Let it crack him open more Cut to the core Cut to the core If he won’t reach for truth I’ll reach down to the core
