Psalm 18 (Text to Poetry)

I love you, Lord, my strength, My rock, my fortress, my shield at length, In you I take refuge, in you I stand tall, You are the horn of my salvation, my all in all. I called to you, O Lord, worthy of praise, And you saved me from all my enemies' ways. Death’s cords entangled me, destruction drew near, The snares of the grave wrapped me in fear. In distress, I cried, my voice reached your ear, From your temple, O Lord, you quickly came near. The earth shook, mountains trembled with dread, For your anger, O God, erupted and spread. Smoke from your nostrils, flames from your mouth, You came from the heavens, casting all darkness about. On cherubim you soared, on the clouds you were mounted, With hailstones and lightning, your power compounded. You thundered from heaven, your voice split the sky, The valleys exposed, your enemies fly. You reached down to save me, you drew me from strife, From foes too strong for me, you spared my life. They attacked, brought a day of disaster and grief, But you, Lord, were my support and relief. You led me to freedom, a place full of grace, You rescued me. You brought delight to my face. The Lord rewards all who are his, clean and pure of the heart. Guards those in his ways, by faith from the start. Who turn not from his laws, which are always in sight, By grace keep themselves and walk in his light. To the faithful, you show yourself to be true. To the pure, you are pure; to the shrewd, you’re shrewd too. You save all the humble, you bring down the proud, You turn darkness to light, you unfurrow the brow With you, I can charge against any foe, By your strength, Lord, unbreakable walls, I o’erthrow. Your way is e’er perfect, your word is the light, A shield to all who trust in you for your great might. For who is God but you, O Lord? Who is the Rock whom I adored? You give me strength, you make me stand, My feet like a deer’s, on heights of the land. You train my hands, for battle prepare, My arms bend bronze, your power I bear. Your shield is my safety, your hand is my guide, In your help, O Lord, I put all my pride. I chased all my enemies until I found them no more, I crushed them as powder, you my victory secure. You cause me to reign turning nations aside. Strangers bow before me or they tremble and hide. The Lord lives! My Rock, all praise to his name, Exalted be God, my Savior’s acclaim. You avenge and you save, subduing my foes, Exalting me high cause your love overflows. I will praise you, Lord, to all nations world round, Sing praise to your name for the church that you’ve found, For you give your people victories in the greatest love, By King Jesus who reigns on David’s throne above.
