Genesis Chapter 16 (Main)

V5

(Verse 1) Sarai waited long for a promise divine, But the years kept rolling by, no child in sight. She said to Abram, “Go to Hagar, my maid, Maybe through her, the promise will be made.” So Abram agreed, and Hagar conceived, But pride filled her eyes when the child was received. Sarai felt wounded, her heart torn apart, She cried to Abram, “The wrong’s on my heart!” (Chorus) Oh, the God who sees me, still sees me now, In my wandering, He knows how. In the desert of pain, in the shadow’s plea, He’s the God who lives and the God who sees me. (Verse 2) Abram said softly, “She’s in your hand, Do what you will, as you understand.” Sarai afflicted her, harsh and cold, So Hagar fled into the desert’s fold. By a fountain of water on the road to Shur, The Angel of the Lord came speaking to her: “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from? And where will you go, O wandering one?” (Chorus) Oh, the God who sees me, still sees me now, In my exile, He keeps His vow. In the wilderness heat, by a lonely sea, He’s the God who lives and the God who sees me. (Bridge) “Return to your mistress, humble your way, I’ll multiply your seed beyond what you say. You’ll bear a son; call him Ishmael’s name, For the Lord has heard your sorrow and pain.” “He’ll be wild and free, his hand set wide, Against his brothers, yet under God’s eye.” And Hagar bowed low, tears on her face, Saying, “I have seen the God of grace.” (Final Chorus) Oh, the God who sees me, still sees me now, From the well of the Living, I make my vow. In the wilderness found, His mercy’s key— He’s the God who lives and the God who sees me. (Outro) So Hagar bore Abram a son that day, Ishmael, the name that the angel gave. And the well remains for all to see— Beer-lahai-roi, the God who sees me.
