I’ve heard it told, a tale to bend your ear
Somewhere down in the holler once a year
The air gets stale and reeks of fear
Trapped and anxious as the vastness disappears
When you’re near your lungs grow tight
Breathing gets hard and the mind seeks flight They come from the earth
A tangled twisted rebirth
Eyes sunk and hollowed out
Maggots crawl and fall all about
One purpose, cold and sure
To feed that ravenous hunger
They rip your flesh to let death loose
Last light dies in your eyes — they drink your soul
Fuel for the life they steal, their only goal If you find yourself by the holler on Halloween
Best get out of there fast before you hear the humming Gonna need fire and crucifixes to bury them back down
The sound of a gun just brings them around
More will come than one man can run through
So get your ass out the holler
Before you’re hollering and humming too The only one to escape, for this story to tell
Was a porter hauling a cargo of Jack Daniel's
When those twisted souls came on
He lit fiery cocktails and threw them forward
Nobody believed him. He died a broken man
Still swearing the tale till the last bottle slipped from his hand They say at the end he wasn’t talking He was humming
