FRANK 021 – The Cottage in Flames | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) He came again at morning and found they had gone away, The cottage stood abandoned beneath the ashen day. He searched the silent doorway for voices once so near, But only empty chambers returned his deepest fear. (Verse 2) He thought of all the firewood he carried there with care, And every hidden kindness dissolved into despair. The home he called his Eden had cast him from its light, And love became a wound there that darkened into spite. (Chorus) He raised the torch of anger and gave the roof to flame, And watched the walls he cherished become a burning frame. The windows filled with fire, the rafters burned away, And hope that once had warmed him turned cold before the day. (Verse 3) The fire climbed the timber and painted darkness bright, While sparks rose through the branches and vanished in the night. He stood before the ruin where once he longed for grace, And hatred found a dwelling where hope had held its place. (Verse 4) No family came to stop him, no welcome would return, He fed the walls to embers and watched the cottage burn. The world had judged his features before it knew his mind, So mercy toward that world was a thing he left behind. (Chorus) He raised the torch of anger and gave the roof to flame, And watched the walls he cherished become a burning frame. The windows filled with fire, the rafters burned away, And hope that once had warmed him turned cold before the day. (Bridge) He had begun with wonder, with kindness as his guide, But every door of mercy had closed from every side. The fire marked the ending of dreams he once held true, And from the smoking ashes a harsher purpose grew. (Outro) At dawn the cottage blackened beneath a colourless sky, And with it something gentle within him seemed to die. He turned from human friendship and walked into the cold, While hatred took the future that hope had tried to hold.
